Massage therapy

Our massage therapist can help with all of the following:

DEEP TISSUE MASSAGE This technique works on the deeper layers of muscle tissue. Like Swedish Massage, Deep Tissue Massage (DTM) uses slower, firmer strokes and pressure than other treatments. It involves deep finger pressure concentrating on particular areas, and follows or crosses the fibres of muscles and tendons. DTM describes a number of different therapies, and is often used by Physiotherapists. DTM helps to refresh and relax muscles, increasing the blood flow (and therefore oxygen flow) around the body. This removes toxins in sore and strained muscles, which promotes recovery. DTM is often used to aid recovery from accidents or sports injuries as it increases blood circulation in muscles, relieves chronic muscle tension throughout the body, and can break down scar tissue and “knots” in muscles.

HOLISTIC MASSAGE Holistic comes from the Greek word “holos” meaning whole. The holistic approach to treatments and full body massage encompasses a person’s whole being – mind, body and spirit – not just the symptom or ailment, integrating emotional and physical needs.

SPORTS MASSAGE We treat the body as a whole, finding the root cause, then providing treatment and rehabilitation advice on returning to fitness. Using a wide variety of techniques such as soft tissue therapy, muscle energy work, neuromuscular facilitation, passive and active stretches, to break your cycle of injury. This treatment is robust and should not be mistaken for a 'relaxing' massage. Nor is this to be confused with physiotherapy. Sport therapy works on many levels and so patient involvement and participation is required for full effect.
